 |
Emmanuel Tang Ngong (Tango) won his first competition in 1993, organised by the British Council in Cameroon. He was the best student in drawing and painting in Primary and Secondary school. He won also many competitions while in High School and left many paintings in the school auditorium before he graduated.
Tango read Political Science and Public administration in the University of Buea, but was still very prominent in Fine Art. He was awarded best artist in the university twice (2001 and 2002). He also represented the university twice in national festivals and earned honorary awards. He painted part of 'The way of the Cross' paintings for the University Chapel, and decorated the cultural village of the university.
Tango has exhibited in almost all prominent Galleries in Cameroon. His paintings have been collected and exhibited in the USA, France, England and Sweden.
"The Limbe workshop acted as a turning point in my artistic career. I felt some deep pain and emotion for those animals … I just asked myself: why should we have these fellow-beings facing extinction right before our eyes, and foreigners will travel thousands of miles to come and rescue this species when we sit back and watch?".
50% of the revenues of this original gorilla painting, signed by the artist, will go to the conservation of the Cross River Gorillas in South West Cameroon.
Shipping and handling costs (US and Europe): US$75
