CapeNature is offering the following position to potential candidates interested in a conservation ecological career.  The successful candidates will be based in the relevant CapeNature regions.  The position comprises the following:

RESPONSIBILITIES
•    Co-ordinate, capture and distribute biodiversity data of the relevant Region
•    Statistical analysis of data
•    Manage a comprehensive database in collaboration with the Regional Ecologist
•    Assist with the compilation and revision of management plans both on and off reserves
•    Co-ordinate and participate in ecological auditing programmes
•    Identify and facilitate regional biodiversity research, inventory and monitoring actions
•    Assist with commenting and reporting on environmental impact assessments
•    Participate in ecological training, mentoring and the creation of a learning culture in the unit
•    Facilitate communication and feedback among conservation staff

 REQUIREMENTS
•    An appropriate tertiary qualification in ecology and/or nature conservation and at least 4 years of experience
•    Thorough understanding of ecological theory, ecological processes and components of biodiversity
•    Ability to motivate and mentor staff to ensure maximum productivity and optimal development skills
•    Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and interface with a wide range of people
•    Ability to work effectively as part of multi-disciplinary team
•    Physically fit and willing and able to undertake strenuous fieldwork under varying climatic and terrain conditions
•    Prepared to travel extensively and be away from home for periods of time
•    Must have a valid driver’s license
•    Proficiency in two of the three official languages of the Western Cape
•    A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
•    A good working knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (ArcView)

RECOMMENDATIONS
•    Knowledge of and the ability to interpret conservation policies and legislation
•    A confident, committed, service-orientated, organized, and innovative predisposition
•    Ability to prioritize and adapt according to circumstances
