| ERMIS-Africa is a Regional NGO based in Kenya and operating across Africa through a Network Mechanism. Its vision for Africa is a Continent with sound Environmental Governance System. The organisation provides a variety of environmental governance services and products towards sustainable environmental. Our key activities include: natural resources mapping, institutional strengthening, capacity building of local and ‘Indigenous Peoples’ communities, and promoting the sharing of environmental information for supporting decision making. The organisation has three main programmes: Natural Resource Management (NRM); Education Training and Public Awareness (ETPA); and Information Communication Management (ICM). ERMIS implements her programmes in collaboration with various stakeholders including Local and ‘Indigenous Peoples’ communities, Civil Society Organisations, Government Ministries and Research and Educational Institutions for increased impact. The NRM Program has received funding from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland (MFA) through SHALIN ry – Finland and the Finnish Embassy. The first funding phase by MFA, (2007-2009), focused on improving local environmental governance by facilitating local and ‘Indigenous Peoples’ communities around Mt Kenya, Aberdares, Mukogodo Forest, Mau Forest Complex, and Cherangany Forest to map and document their cultural and natural landscape. This was accomplished through “GIS Enhanced Ecological Mapping for Improved Governance and Management of Natural Resources (GISEEM) project. The project is under its Phase II, 2010-2012, and aims at (i) promoting the sharing of information, lessons and practices gained during the first phase, (ii) advocating policy coherence between the Forest Act, 2005 and other policies like Land Policy for improved community participation in natural resources, and (iii) promoting community budgeting for improved governance. The funding from the Finnish Embassy is supporting the Mau Forest Complex Rehabilitation and Conservation through the ‘Mau Forest Complex Information Clearinghouse (Mau-SDI)’ project. The project is offering advisory services to development actors engaged in the rehabilitation and conservation of Mau Forest Complex on social safeguard considerations for the Ogiek Indigenous People issues and promoting the sharing of spatial information among actors towards improved decision making. ERMIS wish to recruit qualified personnel to coordinate the NRM Programme. The coordinator will be reporting to the Executive Director. The post holder will be responsible for guiding and participating in project planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of NRM projects. Requirements: · Minimum of a Masters Degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Development Studies, Sociology or any other relevant field · Must have a minimum experience of 2 years working with NGO · Proven evidence of writing skills of professional publication standards · Experience in participatory project management, GIS/Remote Sensing/Web 2.0 technolgies and right-based approaches · Must be of proven professional ethics and a team player · Good proficiency in English and Swahili Contract Period: The contract is for one (1) year renewable with an initial 4-months probation period.
