TortoiseCare

Tortoise Care - Saving the Egyptian Tortoise. The Egyptian Tortoise - Testudo kleinmanni - is one of the world's smallest and most endangered tortoises. It is a species restricted in distribution to the Mediterranean coastal deserts of Egypt, Eastern Libya and western Negev in Israel. It is heading towards extinction in the wild due to collection for the pet trade and the destruction of its natural habitats.

TortoiseCare is a programme to conserve the Egyptian Tortoise throughouts its range. The project was initiated by Sherif and Mindy Baha El Din after they were entrusted with the care of 200 Egyptian Tortoises confiscated in government raids on illegal traders.

Individuals and organizations wanting to co-operate with them and contribute to their efforts can email them. U.S. residents can make tax-deductible donations to the 'Egyptian Tortoise Appeal' by contacting Tortoise Trust.
