The Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force was formed in April 2001 by a group of Zimbabweans who were desperately concerned about the unacceptable levels of poaching as well as the destruction of the environment due to the break down of law and order in Zimbabwe. During the "land grab", it was not only agricultural land that was targeted. A large percentage of private game ranches and conservancies have also been confiscated, leaving the wildlife to the mercy of war vets. Several conservancies are now completely devoid of wildlife.
The Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force are also concerned that fish are netted in the rivers flowing out of the Kariba basin (restricted breeding areas) and that Zimbabwe is facing the total decimation of the Tiger Fish population in Kariba. The Tiger Fish are a tourist attraction however their extinction will also cause the total collapse of the kapenta fishing industry.
Another big concern is the damage which is occuring in the river beds as illegal gold panners search for gold which results in enormous holes that are not refilled. When the rains come, all the loose soil will be washed into the Limpopo and the Zambezi. This will cause siltation which will result in another flood disaster.
Thousands upon thousands of trees some of which are indigenous to Zimbabwe are being chopped down by the land settlers. There are now vast tracts of barren land where there was once lush vegetation. You can make a difference. Funds are required to finance anti-poaching patrols and for medication necessary for wildlife rescue operations. If you would like to help please contact us.
