The mission of the Burundian Association for the Protection of Birds (ABO), established in 1999, is to promote natural and biodiversity conservation, particularly through the study and preservation of biodiversity and more specifically that of birds, for the benefit of present and future generations.
Burundi is rich in bird species. 596 species have been reported, 432 are sedentary, and 109 are migratory. The main areas of conservation of birds are protected areas which are sites rich in natural resources (both plants and animals).
ABO contributes to the preservation and rehabilitation of ecosystems and natural habitats in general. To achieve these objectives, the ABO cooperates with national, regional and international associations and supports ornithological research of national bird species.
