The Malawi Ornithological Society was formed in 1996. The society was primarly created to support ornithological research efforts in Malawi.Malawi ornithological Society believes in achieving its goals through conservation and ornithology. The goals of Malawi Ornithological Society are:

• to promote Malawi ornithology through research and education.
• to promote and achieve avian conservation goals through our Partners.
• to become a facilitator in conservation at every endeavour by putting people first.
