WADEC - Women Agriculture Development and Environmental Conservation
WADEC (Women Agriculture Development and Environmental Conservation) is a non-profit making, non-governmental, non-sectarian organization registered in 1997. Their offices are located in Njiro, Arusha. WADEC pays special attention to women members who are engaged in agricultural activities and environmental protection in rural areas to increase productivity and sustainable development. The unit puts emphasis on the practice of organic farming and the use of natural pesticides to reduce environmental pollution and land degration. One of the projects the organisation are currently implementing is the Arumeru Holistic Empowerment and Development (AHEAD) Project which is being funded by the EU until 2007. WADEC are also involved in a Water Supply Project funded by CAFOD and is fostering community involvement on environmental awareness and conservation in Arumeru district; this project was funded by CIDA. Some of their other activities include training on conservation issues, establishing tree nurseries, conserving water resources and construction of energy-saving stoves.
