Congo Basin Forest Partnership (CBFP)

The Congo Basin Forest Partnership (CBFP) is an association that brings together some thirty governmental and non-governmental organisations. It was established in September 2002, at the World Summit on Sustainable Development (Johannesburg, South Africa). The goal of CBFP is to improve communication between members and coordination between their projects, programmes and policies in order to enhance the sustainable management of the Congo Basin forests and improve on the standard of living of the inhabitants of the region.

The partnership is facilitated by one of the members of the CBFP, the United States of America in 2003 and 2004, and France since February 2005. The members (see partners) meet on a periodic basis and share information through all possible channels, in particular via this web site. These activities are supported and developed by the French facilitation which focuses its action on six main priority areas :

    * Strengthening regional consensus-building/consultation,
    * Setting up a working group on funding mechanisms,
    * Building the human capacity of the forest/environment sector of the region,
    * Strengthening the Executive Secretariat of COMIFAC,
    * Improving governance in the forest sector,
    * Promotion of and communication on the activities of the CBFP and partners.
