Namibian Coast Conservation and Management project (NACOMA)

The Namibian Coast Conservation and Management project (NACOMA), is a 5 year project officially launched in March 2006. NACOMA is funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the Government of Republic of Namibia (GRN).

Over the 5 year life of the project, NACOMA will try to:

  • Enable Namibians to agree on a common vision for Coastal Zone Management (CZM);
  • Develop and support the implementation of the Namibian Coastal Zone Management White Paper;
  • Clarify the legal & regulatory framework for coastal zone development planning;
  • Harmonize institutional mandates and roles for CZM;
  • Provide required training and practical skills to key stakeholders responsible for CZM;
  • Improve awareness of environmental problems.

An overall end result of the NACOMA project will be the development of an effective and efficient Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) system for Namibia.
