Vervet Monkey Foundation
Vervet Monkey Foundation. In 1989 three concerned South Africans, having been handed an orphaned baby monkey by a farm employee, became involved in the plight of the vervet monkey. As environmentalists and humanitarians they realised that the fate of such animals - regarded as vermin and condemned to death - did not lie in the senseless killing of the orphaned primates but, rather the need for an organization to provide a sanctuary for them and to holistically investigate what was in fact happening to this indigenous primate in South Africa. As they continued, they discovered that in fact very little was known about the species and what data was available was negative and contradictory as well as incomplete and inaccurate. They have now formed the Vervet Monkey Foundation but they desperately need sponsors to help with the development of their sanctuary.
