Rhino Ark is a registered non-profit organisation, formed to protect Kenya's Aberdare Forest, rivers and wildlife, by building a 320km fence to encircle the Aberdare Conservation Area and National Park. In so doing, humans, forest and wildlife conflicts are being resolved. The Aberdares Fence is needed: to stop wildlife marauding onto farm land outside the fence, to protect the farming communities and their crops that border the fence, to curb illegal log extraction, to promote harmony between wildlife and local farmers and to prevent illegal entry into the conservation area. By so doing Rhino Ark seeks to:
- Protect the interests of the Black Rhino.
- Preserve the valuable eco-system of The Aberdares Mountain Range.
- Conserve the resources of one of Kenya's most important indigenous forests.
- Resolve the conflicts that exist between humans and wildlife that co-habit the area.
