Tanzania | Chumbe Island Coral Park |
Chumbe Island is a nature reserve 7km from the coast of Zanzibar. It is a rare example of a pristine coral-rag island and boasts a spectacular coral reef along its western shore. It also protects a rare and unspoiled coral-rag forest; home to the unusual coconut crab and breeding sanctuary of the extremely rare Aders Duikers antelope.
On this uninhabited island you can snorkel through one of the most spectacular coral gardens to be found anywhere in the world. You may wander through the historic monuments, walk the forest trail, and discover the innovative eco-architecture of the visitors bungalows and education centre - all guided by one of the Chumbe Island Coral Park rangers. Or you may simply choose to relax. Chumbe Island incorporates conservation and education with tourism resulting in a uniquely sustainable approach to protected area management.
