The Zambezi-Kavira Conservation Foundation is a non-profit foundation formed in 1996 to advance wildlife and forest conservation in southern African countries. The Foundation has a primary interest in Zimbabwe and is developing a project for wildlife habitat in the Kavira Forest. The war in Zimbabwe which ended in 1980 caused extensive destruction of habitat, resulting in erosion, deforestation and consequent loss of substantial wildlife in the area. Working in conjunction with local government, the Foundation will help in the rehabilitation of the area by promoting wildlife management and tourism through educational initiatives at the community level. They are reintroducing native animal species such as impala, eland, zebra and other African plains game and will also provide resources for restoring or developing watering points for animals such as Cape bufflo, kudu and other native species. These watering points will also provide water for local human inhabitants.
