Tandroy Conservation Trust
The Tandroy Conservation Trust - Working with the Tandroy of southern Madagascar to promote conservation, environmental education and sustainable development in a priority area of unprotected spiny forest. Madagascar, one of the world's poorest nations, is identified as a major global conservation priority. With rural people relying on natural resources for their survival, the island's forests are rapidly vanishing. High levels of endemic wildlife, such as the charismatic Ring Tailed Lemur and the magnificent Baobab tree, are found in the southern region of Madagascar in a habitat known as the Spiny Forest. The Tandroy Conservation Trust is the new name for Project Ifotaka. In order to build on four years of successful confidence and capacity building Project Ifotaka was established as a charitable trust in 2002, under the new name of Tandroy Conservation Trust. The TCT is a young organisation with big ambition. They try to blend academic rigour with adventure and action. They offer opportunities for volunteers to contribute to their work in Madagascar -are you up for it? To find out about how you go and take part in the adventure - just visit their website. Their Links page is full of interesting Madagascar-related sites that you may not have seen before. Check it out!
