Friends of Kenya / Marafiki Wa Kenya (FOK) is a non-profit organization begun at the initiative of Returned Peace Corps Volunteers and Staff who served in Kenya. FOK was formed in 1986, following the 25th Anniversary Conference of returned volunteers as a reaffirmation of commitment to those ideals and goals which first drew them to the Peace Corps. Its objectives include keeping members informed about Kenya and each other, supporting human welfare and nature conservation projects in Kenya, and lobbying and education activities. In the past two decades, FOK has contributed more than $50,000 in assistance to some 70 projects in the East African country. Friends of Kenya is affiliated with the National Peace Corps Association. Membership is open to anyone interested in Kenya, and sharing its goals. FOK is a 501(c)(3) organization and all contributions are fully tax deductible. Note: Friends of Kenya (FOK) is NOT affiliated with Friends of Kenya USA (FROKUSA), an organization that is also sometimes referred to as "Friends of Kenya," and is known to take partisan stands regarding Kenyan activities. Since its beginning Friends of Kenya (FOK) has maintained a non-political position and has dedicated itself in large part to assisting Kenyans through a variety of projects.
