Luangwa Wilderness Society
The society ‘Luangwa Wilderness e. V.’ was founded on the 26th of November 2002. The cause for the foundation of the society was the general intention to become actively involved in nature conservation. In addition, it was of special interest to support the local authorities in their efforts to build up and to maintain the Luambe National Park, as well as to actively integrate the surrounding villages.
Besides financial support the society’s intention is to pass on KnowHow and specialized knowledge as well as becoming actively involved in the management of the Park.

The founders of the society consist of committed veterinarians, who are due to their working life familiar with wildlife and the problems associated with the protection of wildlife, as well as friends, who show a keen interest in nature and wildlife. Chairman of the society is Dr. Olaf Behlert, zoo veterinarian and vice director of the Cologne Zoo in Germany.
