Honorary Rangers
Who are the Honorary Rangers? They work in South Africa's National Parks and their range from tourism, education and information to law enforcement and wildlife management duties. Their fundraising efforts have proved to be of crucial importance to the SANP for example, they have become the major funding agency for SANP's counter-poaching initiative. Honorary Rangers get involved in launching projects from start to finish, e.g. building of game viewing hides in the Kalahari Gemsbok National Park. Any assistance given to them simultaneously becomes support for our National Parks. Anyone with an interest in the biodiversity of South Africa is qualified. You will be required to complete the orientation course and regular courses for personal growth are offered. Newcomers to the group are required to participate for 1 year before being eligible for membership. After completing the orientation course, Honorary Rangers pay an annual subscription. Membership is reviewed annually. It is advised that members regularly attend the monthly evening meeting which lasts approximately two hours. Thereafter, members volunteer for projects. All members are in other employment and do this part-time.
