Bat Interest Group of KwaZulu-Natal (Bats KZN)

Based in Durban, South Africa, The Bat Interest Group of KwaZulu Natal (Bats KZN) is a non-profit origination run by volunteers that was formed in 1994 by Dr Peter Taylor and Kate Richardson, as a project affiliated to the Durban Natural Science Museum.

The Aims of the group are :-

- to promote bats and their value to the environment and to humans by educating members of the public and dispelling myths;
- to conserve bats by maintaining existing bat populations, by rehabilitating injured bats, and by aiding human/bat interactions;
- to promote and undertake research to find out more about the bats of KwaZulu-Natal and southern Africa

Over the years, we have grown to a membership of over 100, with many of these members actively involved in the day to day running of the group.

Bats KZN is involved in bat research and conservation, the rehabilitation of injured bats and their pups and public education. We hold regular public outings and bat watches, give educational talks to schools and other organizations and hold training courses.
