Mpala Wildlife Foundation

Mpala Wildlife Foundation is dedicated to conserving the land, wildlife and natural resources of Mpala, as well as improving the quality of life for the people of Laikipia, Kenya.

Mpala Wildlife Foundation is an operating foundation that funds and runs a world class research center, a 48,000 acre wildlife conservancy, and a variety of community health and outreach programs in Laikipia, Kenya.

The Mpala properties in Laikipia, Kenya were purchased by Sam Small in 1952 and bequeathed to his brother George in 1969. George Small focused his energies and resources on conserving Mpala – its people and wildlife.

In 1989 George created the Mpala Wildlife Foundation to fund the activities necessary to achieve his vision. With a mission of helping the people of Kenya, George founded a land and wildlife conservancy, a community health center, and a world-class research and educational facility at his Mpala Ranch property.

In accordance with his mission, the foundation supports the Mpala Research Centre and operates Mpala’s 48,000 acres as a land and wildlife conservancy. The conservancy supports a community outreach program, which includes the Mpala Mobile Clinic, as well as a working cattle ranch that successfully coexists with an abundance of wildlife.
