The Painted Dog Conservation Organisation’s mission is to conserve and increase the range and numbers of the painted dog (Lycaon pictus) both in Zimbabwe and elsewhere in Africa by providing conservation tools and education material that can be used to protect this highly endangered carnivore.

Our belief is that Conservation does not occur on an island and so the objective is to undertake a holistic approach that encompasses all the stakeholders, particularly school children and local communities.

The PDC Rehabilitation Facility became operational in October 2002. Designed to allow the organisation to deal effectively with any eventuality concerning compromised or translocated dogs, the facility boasts a seventy - acre main enclosure, plus a one-acre intermediate enclosure and a smaller intensive management area for seriously injured dogs. These three management areas are linked via raceways to facilitate movement of any dogs and allow for pack formation prior to release of any unrelated individual dogs.
