Community participation with Empowerment for stable Environment and Sustainable development towards the 21st Century" 
 

 (A)What about Jema

JEMA stands for Joint Environmental and Development Management Action. It is a non-profit making, scientificand educational programme found by students, graduate, and staff of the University of Dar es Salaam, who have different skills, knowledge and experience in Environmental Management for Sustainable Development.

 

(B)JEMA’s OBJECTIVES 

i.Raising public awareness, about the relationship between poverty, environment and development.
ii.Devising ways and means which will allow both men and women to work as equal partners in the development process,
iii.Lobbying and advocating for collaborative action among beneficiaries, researchers, planners, policy makers, NGO’s and donars in problem identification, project planning, implementation and
evaluation for sustainable development
iv.Having effective network with students and scientists from Universities, colleges, institutes and
NGOs locally and internationally to create a national wide as well as world wide collaboration in
addressing environment and development for poverty alleviation, sustainably
v.Carrying out research and disseminating information by publishing simple language texts to enhance common understanding among local communities, researchers, NGO’s, donars and the government in the development process.


 

(C) ON LINE INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMME 

i.JEMA is a partner organisation in Tanzania of the Eastern and Southern Africa Environmental Learning
programme for schools and communities.
ii.JEMA is organising "Summer Work Camps" for University students and graduates, on wildlife and biodiversity management for poverty alleviation with great participation of the surrounding communities
iii.JEMA is an export agent of traditional handcraft products for promoting Tanzania culture.
