Since 1969, the animal orphanage at the Mount Kenya Wildlife Conservancy continues to be home to countless animals that were orphaned, injured or needed special care. Many are successfully returned to the wild.
Welcome to the Mount Kenya Wildlife Conservancy web site. I am Iris Hunt and I have been living in Kenya for more than 35 years, working to protect Africa's endangered wildlife.
I invite you to explore our web site to learn more about our diverse projects to protect wildlife in Kenya, East Africa.
We ask that you Register as a member at our Green Pages and visit us often for regular updates on all of our activities. You will find in our Archives many, many stories of my Adventures in Kenya and the animals that I have known and loved, announcements of New Births among the animals in our care, profiles of our Staff Members, and even African Recipes.
We are all especially proud of our Bongo Repatriation to Mount Kenya Project. Together with your help, Mount Kenya will once again be populated by the magnificent Mountain Bongo Antelope in the hopes that this time, it will be forever.
- The Mount Kenya Wildlife Conservancy capture unit has also translocated hundreds of threatened animals to safe areas and National Parks and Game Reserves, away from poachers and other dangers.
- We host in excess of 7,000 Kenyan children and their teachers at the Orphanage every year. Our aim is to ignite a spark in the minds of the children through their first encounter with wild animals, hoping that it may later fan into a guiding light in their lives.
- We work to return the extremely rare White Zebra to the Lerogi Plateau and we raise wild animal orphans preparing them to be Returned to their natural habitat.
