NARREC is
a nationally utilized centre for the treatment, care and rehabilitation
of wildlife.
Most of the animals received at NARREC are birds. We also
receive a variety of small mammals and some reptiles.
NARREC was founded in 1988 with the goal of caring for injured
and orphaned wild animals and working toward their successful
release into the natural environment. An integral part of
NARRECs work is providing an enjoyable and informative educational
environment for visiting groups. |
|
NARRECs centre-based programs
provide a guided environmental education program to students
from pre-primary through tertiary level, as well as for in-service
trainees.
NARRECs outreach program provides attractive and relevant
information on local wildlife species. This information aims
to support biodiversity in general and birds in particular.
Posters and booklets have been developed to increase awareness
on the links between natural and social environments that
create risks for and threats to wildlife. |
