JOB VACANCIES AT THE TRUST

Applications are Invited for the Positions of :

Director of the St Helena National Trust

We are looking for someone who has a keen interest in the natural, built and cultural heritage of St Helena. Is self-motivated and can bring experience in one or more of these fields to support the development and management of the Trust and new projects as the Trust evolves. Good inter-personal skills are essential as the role requires interaction with the public, schools, local organisations, government departments and international groups. Prioritising work is important for the successful management of this challenging post.

Projects Officer

We are looking for a self-motivated person who can work to tight schedules, in a busy environment and as part of a small but committed team. The ability to communicate effectively is vital as is the ability to listen and to quickly understand and effectively manage new situations as they develop. Computer literacy is a basic requirement.

A keen interest in, and empathy for, the natural, cultural and built environment is also a prerequisite.

SOUTH ATLANTIC INVASIVE SPECIES CAPACITY BUILDING PROJECT

Invasive species have been recognised as a threat to biological diversity worldwide, and the threat is particularly severe for island states. In order to build regional capacity to deal with this issue, the European Commission’s DG-Development has funded the South Atlantic Invasive Species Project, in which the Saint Helena National Trust is a partner. The project is being implemented by RSPB and has been running since March 2007.

Work is ongoing to assess the status of invasive species on UK islands across the whole of the South Atlantic region. On St Helena a six month survey of the island’s plant distribution and abundance has just been completed.
