Stop Gas Flaring Nigeria
Thursday, 29 November 2007
Since 1979 – almost 30 years ago -- the government of Nigeria has been setting deadlines for oil companies to stop their wasteful and toxic practice of gas flaring.

The current deadline to stop gas flaring is January 1, 2008. But Shell and other oil companies say they will just pay the fines and continue the gas flaring. The multinationals – who save money while Nigeria?s people, environment and economy suffer from gas flaring – want to postpone the deadline yet again to 2011.

IMIRE Black Rhino Tradegy
Tuesday, 13 November 2007
It is with utter shock, horror and disbelief that we report the massacre
of 3 black rhino at the hands of poachers on the night of the 7th November
2007 at Imire Safari Ranch.

Just over 20 years ago, Imire Safari Ranch became the guardians of 7
orphaned black rhino. The purpose of this was to try and increase the
population of the endangered species and over the past 2 decades, the
Travers family have lovingly reared and bred these animals, successfully
releasing 13 black rhino back into Matusadonna National Park.

The concept of "avoided deforestation" -- whereby countries are paid to protect forests -- is the most promising rainforest and climate change policy development in years. It fights climate change at a low cost while preserving other ecosystem services, safeguarding biodiversity and improving living standards for some of the world's poorest people. Unlike other proposed forest conservation solutions, such as "certified" forest logging of ancient forests (primary and old-growth forests), it has the potential to maintain standing rainforests in an intact, fully functioning condition; while meeting reasonable local development needs...
