Madagascar: Program Coordinator, WCS

The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) currently seeks a full time Program Coordinator for the Antongil Bay Landscape. Under the Ministry of Environment, Water, Forest and Tourism (MINEEFT), WCS is the designated manager of the Makira Protected Area, and with the Madagascar National Park Authority (ANGAP) the co-manger of the Masoala National Park. Working along side the Makira Protect Area National Director and the Masoala National Park Director, the program coordinator will support protected area management plan execution while provide technical leadership and strategic direction in WCS led landscape level planning and implementation – ensuring appropriate integration of WCS led activities in regional conservation planning.

Wildlife Conservation Society, in collaboration with University of California, Berkeley, is looking for a new Technical Advisor for the Reseau de la Biodiversite de Madagascar (REBIOMA). Madagascar is arguably the world’s top global conservation priority, and the Government of Madagascar has shown global leadership by committing to triple the area of natural habitat under protection and by engaging local communities in new ways of managing their natural resources.

The Manager, Africa/Madagascar will serve as a Desk Officer for Africa/Madagascar in the region and will provide guidance, training and support to Programme Offices in the development of conservation strategies, policy approaches and GAA fundraising plans.

The Grootbos Foundation was established during 2005 in order to run the non-profit activities of Grootbos Nature Reserve (PTY (LTD)). The company is registered as a Section-21 Company (not for profit). The objectives of the Foundation are: The conservation of biodiversity of Grootbos and its surrounds and development of sustainable nature based livelihoods through ecotourism, research, management and education.


 
South Africa: Coal Mining Coordinator, Grasslands Programme, Pretoria National Botanical Garden

The Grasslands Programme is a multi-faceted bioregional programme over six provinces with numerous partner institutions and a core budget of $8.3 million for implementing the conservation and sustainable development strategy for the grasslands biome. At the heart of this strategy is an approach that aims to mainstream biodiversity objectives into the production sector strategies and operational practices of a number of sectors, including coal mining. Interventions in this sector include piloting wetland mitigation banking and mainstreaming biodiversity information into planning and decision making processes for new coal mines.

  • Limbe Wildlife Centre in SW Cameroon takes care of infant primates that are lucky enough to be rescued from the illegal pet trade. In November 2007, ACF, ERuDeF and Daniel Taylor organised an art workshop with 13 Cameroonian artists in the centre in order to raise awareness and funding for great apes conservation.
