Tanzania: Senior Field Coordinator, TNRF

The Tanzania Forestry Working Group (TFWG) is hosted by the Tanzania Natural Resource Forum (TNRF). The TFWG is seeking to employ a Senior Field Coordinator based out of Dar es Salaam to co-lead a new communications and advocacy campaign. The initiative will support forest-adjacent communities to become aware of the economic value of forest resources and to begin to seek and receive benefits arising from sustainable forest management. The initiative will also work to ensure that key forest governance issues are recognised and addressed through increased stakeholder awareness and the adoption of appropriate stakeholder actions focused on stopping the illegal timber trade and promoting best practices in forest management.

The Kirstenbosch 'Fynbos' Eco-Schools node has been based at the Gold Fields Environmental Education Centre, Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden since 2006. he Eco-Schools programme is an internationally recognised award scheme that accredits schools that make a commitment to continuously improving their school’s environment. It aims to support schools with better environmental learning and improved environmental management. In South Africa, the Eco-Schools programme is a national programme developed as a partnership between the Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa (WESSA) and the Department of Education and is open to all schools in South Africa.


 
Tanzania Land Conservation Trust: Executive Director

The Tanzania Land Conservation Trust (TLCT) is Tanzania's first land conservation trust and represents a unique opportunity for achieving biodiversity conservation while supporting community goals. The Trust's main objective is to protect land through purchase or donation for wildlife conservation and the promotion of ecotourism, cultural tourism, and sustainable pastoral practices that benefit local communities and other stakeholders. TLCT is governed by a Board of Trustees currently comprised of representatives of the Monduli District Council, African Wildlife Foundation, Tanzania National Parks, World Wildlife Fund, community members, and private conservation interests.TLCT currently owns one property, Manyara Ranch in northern Tanzania, which has 50 staff.

The River Conservation Unit (RCU) of CapeNature’s Scientific Services Unit seeks to appoint two Conservation Scientist (estuarine ecologist and botanist) for a twelve-month, fixed-term and renewable contract period.  The RCU in partnership with the Department of Water Affairs and Forestry implements the River Health Programme (RHP) in the Western Cape Province.
 
Madagascar: Field Assistant, Brown lemur study, Andringitra National Park

Field assistant needed for a study of genetic, morphological, and ecological transitions in a brown lemur hybrid zone (Eulemur fulvus rufus x E. albocollaris). Study will be conducted on the eastern slopes of the Andringitra Massif, in southeastern Madagascar. Field assistant will be responsible for assisting in the collection of basic morphological variables, pelage characteristics and fecal samples. They will also be responsible for setting up botanical plots and helping with collection of ecological variables. Total time commitment required for project is 4 months, between the months of May and August 2008.
