Environmental Education Internship: Garden-based School Programme

January – December 2008
Gold Fields Environmental Education Centre - Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden

The Gold Fields Environmental Education Centre at Kirstenbosch is looking for an enthusiastic, responsible individual to join their team on a one-year internship programme, linked to their garden-based school programme. The Environmental Education Directorate of the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI), together with the Table Mountain Fund and C.A.P.E, see internships as an opportunity to develop people from previously disadvantaged communities along the lines of Environmental Education and related work place skills.

The internship will be a work-based experiential training programme where the intern will be trained by both accredited institutions and by SANBI staff. During the internship, interns will work closely with the Education staff and assist with the garden-based school programme.  Duties will include facilitation of programmes. The intern also will gain experience in the development of teaching and learning resource materials, marketing the programme as well as administrative duties.

Ideally applicants must have experience in delivering environmental education programmes and should have started a natural science or Environmental Education qualification.  Computer literacy and previous work experience in Environmental Education and or community involvement will be an added advantage.  Suitable candidates must be able to work independently and in a team.

If, in addition to the aforementioned requirements, you demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills as well as a good spoken and written command of English and one other official language, you should not hesitate to apply.

Stipend:  R3 000,00/month
