|
January – December 2008
Gold Fields Environmental Education Centre - Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden
The Gold Fields Environmental Education Centre at Kirstenbosch is looking for an enthusiastic, responsible individual to join their team on a one-year internship programme, linked to the Outreach Greening Programme. The Environmental Education Directorate of the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI), together with the Table Mountain Fund and C.A.P.E, see internships as an opportunity to develop people from previously disadvantaged communities along the lines of Environmental Education, horticultural and related workplace skills.
The internship will be a work-based experiential training programme
where the intern will be trained by both accredited institutions and
SANBI staff. During the programme, interns will work closely with the
Education staff and assist with the Outreach Greening and Environmental
Education projects in schools and communities. The aim of the
programme is to promote the establishment and maintenance of indigenous
gardens as well as promoting the educational value of indigenous plants
and gardens.
Duties will include facilitation of workshops and design and
establishment of indigenous gardens. The interns will also gain
experience in the development of teaching and learning resource
materials, marketing the programme as well as administrative duties.
Prospective candidates must hold at least a National Diploma in
Horticulture. Computer literacy and previous work experience in
Environmental Education and/or community involvement will be an
advantage. Suitable candidates must be able to work independently and
in a team. The applicant should have a good spoken and written command
of English and one other official language. A valid code 8 Drivers
licence will be an added advantage.
