Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden - Closing Date: 30 November 2007
(Six-months Contract with possible Six-months Extension)
SANBI seeks the services of a Field Researcher to focus on collecting key mensural information on Protea species growing under natural conditions in the Fynbos Biome. The project aims to gain a deeper understanding of wild Protea populations in order to improve their conservation.

A minimum MSc qualification is required, and the researcher will work three of every five days in the field, in stretches of three to four days. Strong outdoor abilities (fitness/GPS/hiking/scrambling/map reading/orienteering skills) are therefore essential. Field experience in fynbos will be beneficial.

A methodical nature will be an advantage in order to ensure consistency
and completeness of the data collected. A valid Code B driver’s licence is compulsory, with at least one year’s practical driving experience.

The ability to maintain sound interpersonal relations, as well as to communicate effectively in English and another official language(verbally and in writing), is essential.

SANBI offers a salary of R9 745,50 per month (including 37% in lieu of benefits). The post is initially available for six months, with a possible extension of six months. Candidates must be available to start immediately.
