| Two people are urgently required to help digitize 30 000 specimen records of butterflies in the Transvaal Museum (Pretoria). This work forms part of the Southern African Butterfly Conservation Assessment (SABCA; http://butterflies.adu.org.za), a project based at the University of Cape Town. SABCA aims is to create a comprehensive database of all Southern African butterfly records from existing museum and private collections, in order to determine the conservation priorities of butterflies in the region. The two people are to work together as a team, one person reading out label information, the other capturing it onto computer. Training on handling specimens will be provided by the museum. Payment per person will be R25 per 100 specimens. If done on a full-time basis (7 working hours a day), it will take about two months to complete. Data capture must be completed by 31 May 2008. Requirements Good computer skills (Excel). Ability to handle fragile specimens. Be proficient in both English and Afrikaans. Second year BSc or equivalent relevant experience. To begin as soon as possible but preferably no later than end January 2008. If you are interested, please send a motivation and short CV to SABCA’s project coordinator, Dr Silvia Mecenero, asap: Email: This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it Tel: 021 650 3426 Fax: 021 650 3434 Cell: 084 702 4485 |
