Cape Leopard Trust - Assistant Project Manager, Namaqualand

The Cape Leopard Trust was established with the primary objective of facilitating and promoting research in support of conserving predator diversity in the Western Cape. The conservation strategies include inter alia; several bio-geographical research projects, advisory services relating to farmer-predator interactions and fostering new eco-tourism initiatives. It also supports an environmental education component and includes a programme of community involvement with future emphasis being on job creation among disadvantaged communities within the Cederberg area. We are currently extending the project elsewhere in the Western Cape and still further.

Assistant Project Manager
Salary:
R120 000/annum (extras include: housing)
Duration:
Two year renewable contract with a 3 month probation period.

As soon as possible
Job Description:
Assistance with:
• Establishing and managing of Namaqualand Project and other potential leopard research projects
• Leopard density surveys
• data management
• field work, research and monitoring
• facilitating new research & community projects
• administrative functions (e-mails, newsletters, telephone, filing, banking)
• fund-raising (private, corporate & institutional)
• public relations work (with farmers; with sponsor; and educational presentations)
• staff training
Job Requirements:
Proficiency in English & Afrikaans essential
Ideal candidate will have: excellent project management skills;
marketing experience; NGO/charity experience; passion; dedication;
ability to work independently - and be self motivated; excellent people
skills; negotiation and conflict resolution skills; computer skills
(Excel; Word essential - Arcview knowledge preferable); commitment to
conservation as well as community work; happy to live and work in
isolation; good health & hiking fitness; willing to work flexible
hours including weekends; drivers license essential.
Preferences:
Research experience; tertiary education; familiarity with animals &
the environment; innovation; patience; knowledge of GPS & GIS;
interested in further studies; motorcycle drivers license; good public
speaking skills
