SA: Project Coordinator, African Cranes, Wetlands, and Communities Programme
The Endangered Wildlife Trust (EWT), based in Johannesburg, South Africa, has grown over the past thirty-five years into one of the major non-governmental conservation organisations operating throughout southern Africa. The Endangered Wildlife Trust seeks to appoint a Project Coordinator for its African Cranes, Wetlands, and Communities (ACWAC) Programme, a partnership between the International Crane Foundation (ICF) and EWT. 

The ACWAC Project Coordinator will coordinate all existing and planned ACWAC community based projects in southern and east Africa, and will assist with the development of community based projects in other relevant project areas.  The Coordinator will also work closely with the other ACWAC projects.  This individual will be expected to review current ACWAC community based projects and provide input into improving their efficiency and effectiveness.  The individual will also assist with the development and implementation of a project to mitigate the threat of power lines to birds on the continent.

The successful candidate will be expected to interact with key stakeholders and potential partners in the project areas, and strengthen relationships with partners across the continent.  Fundraising for current and potential projects will also be required.
 
A minimum of a tertiary degree in Natural Science and / or Social Sciences with experience in community based conservation is essential. Suitable experience and a proven track record in project development and management is required. Good communication, confidence and personal skills that would allow for the interaction with both communities and government levels are required. Experience in fundraising and proposal writing would be advantageous. The willingness to travel extensively throughout Africa and the ability to work independently as well as in a team, be self-motivated, disciplined, innovative and energetic is essential.

    Preference will be given to candidates who have the ability to communicate in either KiSwahili or French; possess a good knowledge of the broader issues facing the environment and conservation across Africa; at least 5 years of extensive experience in working in at least two African countries and the ability to think creatively.

Administration skills required include: fluency in written and spoken English, good writing skills for reports and media, organisational skills, and proficiency with Microsoft Office, budgeting, and financial administration.

A valid driver’s license is a pre-requisite.

This is contract appointment.
