South Africa: Environmental Educator

The Lapalala Wilderness School (LWS), situated in the Waterberg area of the Limpopo Province, is seeking an experienced Environmental Educator with a passion for the natural environment and educating youth, to commence duties in March 2008. The main responsibilities will be to plan and conduct field-based environmental education courses for learners from Gr. 5-12. 

The ideal candidate must be prepared to live and work in a relatively remote area, and have a good knowledge of indigenous flora and fauna and environmental processes. Candidates should consult www.lapalala.com/education.php for further information on the LWS and its areas of focus.


Essential qualifications and experience include:
•    Tertiary education in either the natural sciences or in teaching and at least two years experience in an education post.
•    Knowledge of environmental education methods and activities.
•    Fluency in written and spoken English, and a good working knowledge of at least one other South African language.
•    Valid driver’s license. 


Preference will be given to those candidates who can demonstrate a capacity for conceptual flexibility in motivating and stimulating learners from a diverse cultural background.

The position carries with it the total cost of employee’s remuneration package that is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Housing will be provided at Lapalala Wilderness.

  • Limbe Wildlife Centre in SW Cameroon takes care of infant primates that are lucky enough to be rescued from the illegal pet trade. In November 2007, ACF, ERuDeF and Daniel Taylor organised an art workshop with 13 Cameroonian artists in the centre in order to raise awareness and funding for great apes conservation.
