South Africa: Community Outreach Coordinator
The Lapalala Wilderness School (LWS), situated in the Waterberg area of the Limpopo Province, is seeking a driven outreach coordinator to support the LWS’s environmental education programmes in local community schools. Applicants must have a passion for the natural environment and educating youth and be prepared to commence duties in March 2008. The main responsibilities will be to develop, initiate and support sustainable community based school projects.  The ideal candidate must be prepared to live and work in a relatively remote area, and be fluent in siPedi. Essential qualifications and experience include:
•    Tertiary education in either the natural sciences or in teaching and at least two years experience in community based projects.
•    Knowledge of environmental education methods, activities and the RNCS.
•    Fluency in written and spoken English and siPedi/Sotho.
•    Valid driver’s license. 

Preference will be given to those candidates who demonstrate a capacity for self motivation and in motivating and stimulating learners from a disadvantaged background.

The position carries with it the total cost of employee’s remuneration package that is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Housing will not be supplied by the LWS and the applicant will be required to commute to and from the communities daily, for which a vehicle will be supplied.  This is an initial three year contract position, with an opportunity to extend to a permanent position.
