Angola: Bicuar National Park Rehabilitation Programme Presented

Lubango - Bicuar National Park, located in southern Huíla province, with a territorial extension of 7,900 square kilometres will be fully rehabilitated in a project funded by Spain, estimated at USD 6 million that includes other national parks of Quissama (Bengo), Iona (Namibe) and Mupa (Cunene).

The information was revealed this Thursday, by Daniel Koxi, director of Spanish company of Angolan rights, "Aretech Solutions", in charge of the work, on the sidelines of a seminar on "the role of local communities in preserving fauna", happening since Wednesday in Huila province.
 
According to Daniel Koxi, the programme includes rehabilitation and equipping of the park infrastructures, route of access, fencing, water, energy and vigilance, in a period of a year.

The amount is to be used by the National Administration of Natural Resources for reforestation programme of Cunene province.

Established as game reserve on 16 April, 1938, Bicuar was qualified as National Park on 26 December, 1964.

It covers to the North a road that starts in Mulola Lumenha passing through Mulola Chipula, on the South, Chibemba road of Gambos-Mulundo, Cunene river until West Onguenha, a part north of Chimbolelo, Ongolola-Cuoco until Mulondo-Chibemba and at East, Cunene River until Mulola Lumenha mouth of a river.

Búfalo negro is a special fauna of reference. The ceremony will be closed this afternoon by minister of Urbanisation and Environment, Diakumpuna Sita José.
