Animal Demography Unit
Department of Zoology

Applications are invited for the above post: 18-month full time contract post in the Animal Demography Unit offices, for appointment as of 1 March 2008.

Responsibilities:

•    To capture butterfly records into an Excel spreadsheet, or other specialized software.
•    To be responsible for the handling of butterfly specimens.
•    Georeferencing of records.
•    Final checking of data submitted by other data technicians
•    Administrative duties.

Requirements:

•    Minimum Matric certificate.
•    Experience with data capture (preferably in the biological or environmental fields) is desirable.
•    Computer literacy, especially Excel and ArcView, is essential.
•    Accuracy in data entry and ability to enter large amounts of data is essential.
•    An interest in butterflies, the environment and biodiversity conservation is desirable.
•    Good geographical skills and a working knowledge of South African place names are desirable.
•    Working knowledge of Afrikaans.
•    A driver’s licence. 
•    Flexibility to travel and spend days out of the office may be necessary.

The annual remuneration is R77,400.

Applications are invited for the above a one-year full time contract post in the Animal Demography Unit offices, for appointment as of 1 March 2008.

Responsibilities:

•    To capture butterfly records into an Excel spreadsheet, or other specialized software.
•    To handle butterfly specimens.
•    Georeferencing of records.
•    Occasional administrative duties.

Requirements:

•    Minimum Matric certificate.
•    Experience with data capture is desirable.
•    Basic level of computer literacy, especially Excel and ArcView, is essential.
•    Accuracy in data entry and ability to enter large amounts of data is essential.
•    An interest in butterflies, the environment and biodiversity conservation is desirable.
•    Good geographical skills and a working knowledge of South African place names are desirable.
•    Working knowledge of Afrikaans is desirable.

The annual remuneration is R45,000.
