Friends of Arabuko-Sokoke Forest are looking for a dynamic, out-going, initiative-taking person who is willing and up to taking a challenge. FoASF is a small conservation organisation working to conserve the Internationally important Arabuko-Sokoke Forest through conservation action (e.g. working with gov. authorities to survey illegal activity), community work (raising awareness amongst community members) and improving eco-tourism facilities for visitors at the forest. The position being sought for is Manager for the organisation’s overall activities. This will include managing two junior staff involving a small sales outlet and visitor environmental interpretation centre, a field officer collecting data on illegal activities, handling basic finances and accounts, report writing including mapping of GIS data, lobbying for conservation action, developing and strengthening the ‘Friends’ scheme both with foreign visitors as well as community members, and maintaining a newsletter, website and blog. The Challenge lies in the status of the “job”. Currently there is no funding for this position but FoASF is an extremely fundable project. The successful applicant will be expected to volunteer for the first few months until such time as s/he has been able to raise funds for the organisation including their own salary. There will be support in terms of giving advice and direction from the FoASF Committee and there is a wide network of concerned supporters of the Forest on whom skills can be drawn to assist the Manager in their work. The position is best-suited to recently graduated University graduates with a degree in an environmentally-related subject, who have a passion for conservation and who are honest and hard-working. Interested applicants should write (preferably by email) with CV to the address below. Please ensure that Referees have an email address by which we can contact them: The Chairman: Friends of Arabuko-Sokoke Forest, PO Box 383 Watamu, 80202 This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it Deadline for applications 3rd March 2008. |
