South Africa: People and Conservation Officer, West Coast National Park
A challenging vacancy currently exists for a People and Conservation Officer ( Environmental Education) at the West Coast National Park. Reporting to the Park Manager, the successful incumbent’s duties and responsibilities will include the following:

•    Organizing and implementation of cultural and environmental education & awareness programs, events and projects in appropriate Heritage centres and Museums;
•    Organise the formation of a representative Park Forum and associated activities; 
•    Promotion of the park’s image by means of media, personal and general liaison to both internal and external clients, locally, nationally and internationally;
•    Establishing  and maintaining sound relations with surrounding stake holders, communities, local authorities; NGO’s and interested & affected parties;
•    Organising of volunteer, student and honorary ranger’s core programs and projects;
•    Economic development of surrounding communities & stakeholders through Park implemented sustainable opportunities/initiatives, programs and projects;
•    Circulation of relevant information about the park in the living conservation and economic landscape;
•    Training of personnel/communities in respect of capacity building;
•    Operational and tourism functions and occasions as and when required;
•    Planning and implementation operational budgets;
•    Monitoring and evaluation of relevant programs and projects.

Minimum Requirements
•    A relevant social sciences degree or equivalent tertiary qualification with three to five years experience in environmental interpretation and education
•    Minimum code 08 drivers’ license with PDP ,code 10 with PDP will serve as an added advantage
       Must be physically fit and be prepared to work outside normal working hours
•    Relevant experience in an appropriate similar scenario
•    Bilingual in English and Afrikaans.
•    Computer literacy with a working knowledge of Microsoft systems including presentation packages.
•    Good interpersonal, liaison, negotiation and conflict resolution skills and abilities.
•    Good verbal and written communication skills, project management, administration and operational skills.

A cost to company remuneration package based on the salary scale of a position with a Paterson C-4 job grade will be offered.

  • Limbe Wildlife Centre in SW Cameroon takes care of infant primates that are lucky enough to be rescued from the illegal pet trade. In November 2007, ACF, ERuDeF and Daniel Taylor organised an art workshop with 13 Cameroonian artists in the centre in order to raise awareness and funding for great apes conservation.
