The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) is currently seeking a highly motivated individual to join their international team as Southern Africa Programme Manager. Working with oversight from the MSC's headquarters office in London, the successful candidate will be responsible for running an operational base for the MSC in South Africa and implementing a programme of outreach, stakeholder consultation and project development in target Southern African countries.
The role will involve creating awareness of the MSC's fishery
certification programme across a wide range of interests groups in the
fisheries sector in target countries and building capacity of
stakeholders to initiate and engage in assessments of fisheries for
certification. It will also involve implementing activities and
projects to ensure support, credibility and implementation of the MSC's
programme in the region and ultimately contributing to MSC overall aims
to increase Developing Country fishery participation in its
certification programme. If you have practical understanding of fisheries and resource sustainability issues and knowledge of fisheries management and policy issues, particularly in developing countries, we want to hear from you. Your past successes will include working with diverse stakeholders in multicultural settings, using sound judgement, demonstrating a thorough understanding of the fisheries sector including seafood and fishing industries, commercial sector, government and non governmental organisations. Your written and oral communication skills will be second to none. You are well-organised, highly productive, people centred and outcome focused. Experience working in the fisheries sector in Africa is a definite advantage.
