South Africa: Project Co-ordinator, Ostrich Industry Biodiversity Management Project
The South African Ostrich Business Chamber obtained funding to initiate a year-long process through which farmers in the major ostrich-producing areas in the Klein Karoo will be encouranged to implement improved land management practices, utilising veld in an improved and sustainable way, and ensure the sustainability of the ostrich industry and continued international market access.

The successful incumbent should be a conceptual thinker with the ability to manage a dynamic project team, plan and foresee potential problems both at the macro and micro levels.

Reporting to the CEO of the SAOBC, the project co-ordinator would be expected to perform the following functions:

Overall management of project implementation, including the following elements

•    Implement a pilot project for developing detailed farm level best management plans and providing farm level extension services.
•    Produce an Ostrich and Biodiversity Long Term Management Strategy
•    Establish a link to Biodiversity and Business networks and working groups
•    Develop a project roll out timetable with milestones and critical events schedule
•    Identify and if necessary procure the required resources to deliver the project within the set timelines
•    Convene, chair and maintain accurate records of meetings
•    Keep the relevant committees fully briefed on progress and any potential challenges which may require resolution
•    Reporting to the donor and to the project management team
•    Ensure that the funders’ procurement, finance and administrative procedures and policies are adhered to

Minimum Requirements:

•    Relevant tertiary qualification/experience
•    A team player with excellent organisational ability
•    Excellent problem solving skills
•    Bilingualism in at least two of the three official languages of the Western Cape
•    A valid drivers license Code 8 with no restrictions
•    Willingness to travel
