South Africa: Environmental Educator/Coordinator, WESSA
The WESSA Border Kei Region is looking for an Environmental Educator/ Coordinator to assist with our Fresh Water Programme in schools and communities across the region. 

Areas of Responsibility:
The posts will be based within the WESSA Border Kei Environmental Education Programme, East London (Eastern Cape).

The incumbents will be expected to:
  • Support schools and communities with the development, implementation and monitoring of environmental related projects for improved and healthier fresh water systems including wetlands.
  • Develop school/community training programmes.
  • Coordinate Environmental Education Forum Networks.
  • Develop appropriate activities and tools for EE Centres.
  • Adapt and/or develop resource materials. 
  • Assist in the development, tutoring and coordination of EE short courses.
  • Liaise with other EE partners in the Region.
  • Assist the Regional Coordinator with other EE related activities.

Qualifying Criteria
  • Minimum qualification: Nature Conservation Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in environmental education activities and good knowledge on fresh water (including wetlands) systems.
  • Excellent facilitation skills.
  • Practical skills.
  • Ability to work independently
  • Good networking and communication skills (both in English and Xhosa are essential)
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Willingness to travel within the Eastern Cape
  • Computer skills
  • Good interpersonal and team skills
  • A genuine desire to work in an NGO environment

  • Limbe Wildlife Centre in SW Cameroon takes care of infant primates that are lucky enough to be rescued from the illegal pet trade. In November 2007, ACF, ERuDeF and Daniel Taylor organised an art workshop with 13 Cameroonian artists in the centre in order to raise awareness and funding for great apes conservation.
