South Africa: Director Zoological Systematics, SANBI
A proven Zoological professional is sought to provide innovative leadership in the proactive initiation and co-ordination of the development and maintenance of business plans, strategy and policy on all aspects of Zoological Systematics in SANBI. The appointee will report to the Chief Director: Biosystematics & Collections Division. Appointment requires a PhD, enhanced by at least eight years’ experience, of which five in a managerial position in Zoological Systematics. Research and a well-developed sense of responsibility and accountability are required, as well as an outgoing personality and managerial abilities. Computer literacy (MS Word) is a requirement.

Responsibilities would include: • providing accurate and clear information on current and future Zoological Systematics research thrusts and trends • overseeing and participating in the Zoological Systematics research programmes of SANBI • driving and assisting in implementing the transformation policies of SANBI • seeing to the production of annual Business Plans of the Zoological Systematics Research component and reporting to the Chief Director on these aspects • generating external funds to supplement grant-in-aid (MTEF budget) allocations to the Zoological Systematics Research component.

  • Limbe Wildlife Centre in SW Cameroon takes care of infant primates that are lucky enough to be rescued from the illegal pet trade. In November 2007, ACF, ERuDeF and Daniel Taylor organised an art workshop with 13 Cameroonian artists in the centre in order to raise awareness and funding for great apes conservation.
