Tusker raises thousands for African wildlife

UK distributors "give something back" to Africa with fundraising drive

African lager Tusker has raised more than £10,000 pounds for a wildlife charity.

UK distributors of the beer donated five pence from every sale to the Tusk Trust, which funds conservation projects across Africa.

Only Fools and Horses star John Challis presented a cheque for £10,434 to the charity at a ceremony in Worcester.

The actor, who is one of the trust’s founding patrons, said: “It is great to see Tusker, a genuine African lager, raising so much money for the charity in the UK.

“This was one of the first charities to get local people involved in the preservation of Africa’s incredible wildlife.”

Distributor of Tusker in the UK, Peter Karsten, added: “The work Tusk does in Africa is so important and as Tusker is a genuine imported African lager, we feel it is very important to give something back to Africa.

“We are looking forward to raising even more funds for Tusk in 2008.”

Tusker lager, which is brewed with barley from the base of Mount Kenya, was named in memory of the brewery’s founder, George Hurst, who was killed by an elephant in 1923.
