Kruger National Park authorities reveal they killed a rhino poacher in 2007
Officials from Kruger National Park in South Africa have revealed that a poacher was shot and killed in the game reserve late in 2007.

The official Kruger Park News has reported that park rangers and operators from South African National Parks killed the poacher on December 14th.

According to the report, the incident happened after patrols were stepped up following the illegal killing of two rhinos in the park in the preceding months.

Investigations following the shooting have uncovered "various weapons, including a highly modified hunting rifle and a home-made shotgun, spotlights and camouflage uniforms".

The follow-up also led to the arrest of two suspects from a village located on the southern borders of Kruger, near the town of Komatipoort.

Inspector Kobus Nel of the South African Police Service told the publication that a specially-trained dog unit was used during the investigation and that the animals proved extremely useful in tracking the poachers.

He added that the suspects were due to appear in court in the coming weeks.
