HELP SANWILD: sign online petition
SanWild urgently needs your help to get a mining permit issued to Maranda Mine overturned asap. The permit was issued to do open cast mining in the SanWild Wildlife Sanctuary and currently we are in a legal battle to prevent any mining taking place in the reserve. Maranda had been granted a court interdict to commence open cast mining immediately, but we have managed to get a right to appeal this decision and effectively it has halted all mining activities in the reserve for possible 18-24 months.

However the threat of mining is by no means over and Maranda has already indicated that they will insist on further prospecting rights and have already asked our permission to gain entry to start with prospecting.  We have refused this permission and we are of the opinion that they will lodge another urgent court application to gain access.  Obviously we will oppose all attempts to prospect and mine in the reserve.

Maranda Mine did not consult with SanWild as part of their public participation process and we believe that if the Department of Minerals and Energy were given the correct information when Maranda Mine applied for the permit, DME would not have granted the permit.

We have therefore lodge and appeal with DME and need your help and support to convince them that indeed they should suspend and cancel the permit issued to Maranda and instruct them to reapply should they choose to continue mining in the protected wildlife sanctuary.

Open cast mining in the sanctuary will serious jeopardise and compromise the fauna and flora.  Many endangered plants and animals will be destroyed and killed and this is simply not acceptable.

Kindly pls help us by signing our on-line petition asap at http://www.thepetitionsite.com/petition/498062615
