Uganda: Nakaseke Leaders Disagree On Wildlife Investment Plan |

Kampala - Two sub counties included in a 20-year projected wildlife investment plan by the Uganda Wildlife safaris limited in the District of Nakaseke are a center of controversy, Daily Monitor has learnt. The sub counties include Kapeeka and Wakyato in Nakaseke District which some leaders claim are populated and residents carryout meaningful cultivation that would not suit a wildlife project. Nakaseke District vice chairperson Muhamad Gubya told a consultative meeting organised by the Uganda Wildlife Authority at the final selection of the private investor on collaborative management of wildlife in Luweero and Nakaseke districts that the residents of Wakyato and Kapeeka had tried to embrace the idea by the Uganda Wildlife Authority to support a wildlife investment project but the behaviour of these animals towards the farming population is disastrous "The people of Wakyato have tested the wrath of these problem animals that have destroyed their crops in the past two seasons," he said. Nakaseke deputy RDC Lt. John Kaddu told the meeting that his office has over 200 protest letters alleging that the problem animals are a source of discomfort to them. However, the chairman Nakaseke District Wildlife Association who is also the District councillor representing Ngoma Sub-county, Mr Enoch Nyongole disagreed with the two leaders insisting that his association together with UWA had carried out enough sensitization in these areas. He said the people were willing to support the wildlife project in these areas. The Uganda wildlife Safaris limited is set to sign a 20 year wildlife investment project in partnership with Nakaseke and Luweero districts wild life associations. The Uganda wildlife safaris limited will introduce sport hunting, establish camping sites and carryout wildlife activities in the sub counties of Zirobwe, Kamira, Butuntumula and Kikyusa in Luweero districts while the wildlife project in Nakaseke district will include Kinyogoga, Ngoma, Wakyato and Kapeeka sub counties. http://www.monitor.co.ug |
