Protest: Community members outraged at the killing of Nonkululeko
On Saturday 2 August 2008, concerned Durban citizens will gather at Umdloti beach (KZN North Coast) to hold a protest following the unnecessary killing of Nonkululeko the wandering hippo, who was killed in Verulam, on the North Coast of KwaZulu Natal early last week.

The protest will be held from 10 am to 11 am. Starting at the Umdloti Roundabout as you drive into Umdloti, the protestors will march down the coastline to Umdloti Main Beach in a peaceful attempt to express their concern about the conservation policies in South Africa as well as support a public inquiry into the matter.

Other concerns include the 6 month wait on the results of post-mortem of the man allegedly killed by Nonkululeko as well as the failure of Ezemvelo KZN wildlife and eThekweni Municipality to adhere to the agreement between themselves and ARA (Animal Rights Africa) to have Nonkululeko safely relocated by 28 July 2008.
