| Wildlife Trust is a USA-based wildlife conservation organization founded in 1971, and until 2000 known as Wildlife Preservation Trust International. Wildlife Trust works worldwide to save endangered species from extinction through collaborative projects with local conservationists. The Wildlife Trust Team works in high biodiversity areas that because of habitat loss and high human population pressures have placed wildlife species at great risk, and where local ability to manage wildlife is limited. Their Ethiopia Projects include research and conservation of the African Wild Ass and the Grevys Zebra in the Danakil Desert of Ethiopia. African wild ass and Grevys zebra are both endangered equids in need of additional study and conservation work. This ambitious project aims to: 1) Collect behavioral ecology and population dynamics data on African wild ass and Grevys zebra in Ethiopia; 2) assess impact of human/livestock presence on wild equid distribution; 3) identify critical resources for species management; 4) conduct population and viability analysis for both species; and 5) begin discussions with local people about the need for conservation of these species.
